Does your personal Facebook Newsfeed seem chaotic sometimes? If you’ve got lots of Facebook friends and have liked lots of Facebook pages then you could literally spend hours scrolling through all of their status updates.
If you’re using Facebook for business you may just want to focus on the posts that are business related and keep your ‘friends, family and entertainment’ posts for when you have more time to browse them.
Here’s the solution: Facebook Interest Lists.
You can search for Interest Lists that have been created by other people and follow those or you can create your own lists.
By following and/or creating lists you can concentrate on the status updates of the people and pages you put on those lists.
Note: Interest Lists are created from your Personal Facebook Profile and NOT from a Facebook Business Page.
How To Find Ready Made Interest Lists
Down the left hand side of your Facebook Newsfeed you’ll see an Interests heading – click on it.
Then click ‘Add Interests’
Facebook will give you some suggestions of Interest Lists to follow based on things you already like.
You can follow the list directly from this page by clicking the ‘Follow’ button. Or click the List title to take you to the Interest List. From there you can see who is on the list and the kind of posts you’ll be able to read if you follow that list. If there’s a lot of spam in the list or just not much going on you can decide not to follow it.
As well as browsing Interest Lists that Facebook suggests, you can also type in keywords to find Interest Lists.
Once you’ve followed a list you’ll be able to find it in the left hand side of your Facebook Newsfeed under Interests, or by clicking the ‘More’ button next to Interests and choosing it from the list.
How To Create Your Own Interest Lists
Click ‘Add Interests’
Click ‘Create List’
Select friends, people you’re following or pages you’ve already liked by clicking on them from the list shown, or choose a category for more options.
You can also type the name of a page or person into the search box.
When you’ve chosen the ones you want to add to your Interest List, click Next.
You can then give your Interest List a name and choose who can see it. When you’re ready, click ‘Done’.
If you’ve created an Interest list of Experts in your own niche, or a local business Interest List remember to add yourself to it. You’re going to share your list with others as a useful resource so you want your own status updates to appear on it.
How To Add People and Pages To Your List Once You’ve Created It
Click on your Interest List from the left hand column. Type the person’s name or the page name into the ‘Add to this list’ box and select the correct person/page. Obviously you can only add to lists you create yourself.
Adding a Page from a Page: Like the page, then click the drop down arrow until you see ‘Add to Interest Lists’. Click this and you’ll see the Interest Lists you’ve created. Select the one you want to add this page to.
Sharing your Interest Lists
If you’ve created Expert Interest Lists or Local Business Interest Lists you may want to share them with your friends, fans or Facebook groups you’ve joined. This means you’re sharing great content, helping others build awareness of their businesses and you’re showcasing your own updates if you remembered to include yourself on the Interest List.
Click the Share button from within your list.
Choose who you want to share your list with and then say something about it. Give people a reason why they should follow it.
You can also share your Interest Lists on other social media sites, your website, your emails or your newsletters by copying the list url and then sharing that.
Facebook Interest Lists are a very useful way of filtering out the noise in your Facebook Newsfeed.
Browse them daily to find great content to share, keep track of industry updates and to network with prospects and referral partners.
